A witness to the first treaty agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States of America, the Treaty Oak once stood as a symbol of the promises made by the US and the sacred land on which it stood. Today, little is known by the user about the historically significant event that took place on the Treaty Oak site. Today, the site is used by college student and locals as a space to hike and recreate.

The intent of this project is to pay respect to the events that took place here and the people in which it impacted through a minimalistic, interpretive design approach.

Much of this project was created, developed, and delivered analog - using charcoal and chalk as the rendering medium, in addition to xylene printing. I believe in the value of tangible work, and a process that is physical and sometime as messy and fluid as the site itself. For this reason, I felt a great importance in carrying through the use of charcoal from start to finish. These renderings are not pictured within this portfolio.

Additionally, photography played a major role in conveying the nature of this site to my audience. All images and drone footage was shot by me.
